With school starting in most places, new problems will arise. Stuff like bullying, stress, and anxiety will become even bigger problems than before. But a hidden problem will also gain momentum. A problem which can be solved, but can also destroy a good track record. This so-called hidden problem is called procrastination. Welcome to episode 16 of Talking About Topics, a podcast where we discuss and compare random topics using both Christian and earthly viewpoints every Monday. By the way, it used to be Sunday afternoons, but I have switched it to Mondays due to dizzyness going on.
This week's episode is on procrastination. Now we may all have an idea for the meaning of this topic, but just to avoid confusion, I have prepared the definition of procrastination. My simple, unbiased definition of procrastination is the delay of the completion of a task often due to laziness. So what does the earthly viewpoint think of this topic? Well it depends on who you ask. Many people would say that it is not harmful while others would say otherwise. Here's an example. A teenage middle school student may put off his homework until the morning and say it's fine, while his teacher may get upset.
To the student it looks just fine. He got it done, so why does it matter? To the teacher it often shows lack of effort. It shows that the student doesn't really care about his important schoolwork. See? This viewpoint really just depends on who you ask, because there are so many different opinions. But this is the thing about the earthly viewpoint. They change. Not everything from the earthly viewpoint is always the same. This creates political change and stuff like that. That's why our earth is so broken and messed up.
But what does the Bible say about procrastination? What is the Christian viewpoint of this? What is God's one opinion about this important topic? Well, let's see. A Bible passage I found mentions time management. This passage is Ephesians five verses eight through seventeen. It says For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light, for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true. And try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord.
Take no part in the unfruitful words of darkness, but instead expose them, for it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret. But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says, Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you. Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.
Now this passage has a lot of information that's very important, but we will focus mainly at the end of the passage because that's where our topic is found. It says, look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of time because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. This is the official objective truth of procrastination made by God, made by our Creator in the main character of history. He says that procrastination is evil.
You should always make the most of your time because you never know when that time will run out. You will never know when you will breathe your last breath. This passage mainly talks about sharing the faith as using your time wisely, but it can be used for other reasons. Procrastination is bad since you can miss important opportunities to do amazing things, since you'd be wasting your time procrastinating. The Bible says to always strive to make the best use of our time. So we should do just that.
If we see someone on the street who's struggling, we will not say to ourselves, I will help somebody else later. This is an opportunity that we cannot miss. If we miss it, we may never get another shot. Always use the time that you have. Thank you for listening to episode 16 of Talking About Topics.
